Chapter 25 - The Kid Next Door is Jealous
After a satisfying meal and drinks at the restaurant, Liu Peng took out his cell phone, ready to call a ride home.
"You go ahead, we won't be joining you," Su Mu said.
Liu Peng was curious, "What kind of waves are you guys planning to make now?"
"Waves my foot, we've got the cultivation examination coming up, I don't have the energy to spare. We're going to the supermarket to stock up on some rice and flour, and buy some snacks for little Yezi. How about it, want to come along?"
"No, thanks." Liu Peng refused without hesitation. "If I go, you'll definitely make me carry everything like a pack mule. Nope, not going."
He waved his hands repeatedly, indicating he had been tricked and taken advantage of before.
The three of them went their separate ways.
Liu Peng returned home, while Su Mu took his sister to the nearby supermarket chain.
It had been quite some days since Su Ye had been out.
If it weren't for the successful marrow washing and blood exchange procedure that had controlled her illness, Su Mu probably wouldn't have taken her out for this meal, let alone to the supermarket.
Of course, this was all thanks to the nourishing effects of the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken. Otherwise, with Su Ye's deficiency of righteous qi, Su Mu wouldn't have dared to bring her into a crowded supermarket with poor air circulation.
"What would you like to eat? Choose anything," he said, as he saw Su Ye eyeing the snacks with desire. Su Mu spoke with such grandiosity that he might as well have waved his hand and told his sister that he had contracted the entire supermarket.
Of course, that was probably beyond his means.
"Really?" Su Ye asked, and upon receiving a nod of affirmation, she happily picked out a few of her favorite snacks and also chose some for Su Mu.
Su Mu found a basket and placed all the snacks inside.
After selecting the snacks, Su Ye asked, "Bro, what exactly do you want to buy at the supermarket? We still have plenty of rice and flour at home, no need to buy it now, right?"
"Little smarty-pants," Su Mu chuckled. "Let's go to the spiritual bird meat section, see if they have any Shangfu chicken meat for sale."
"You're going to make Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken?" Su Ye asked.
"That's right."
Su Ye was surprised, "You know how to make it?"
"I didn't use to, but after eating the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken, I learned. Not only that, but I can make it even better than the one we just had — tastier and more effective!"
Su Ye seemed thoughtful, "Is it the same with the Qi Cultivation Technique and qi refining pills?"
Su Mu was momentarily taken aback but then nodded, "Yes."
Su Ye nodded as well, without further questioning.
Now it was Su Mu's turn to be surprised, "Aren't you going to ask where I got these skills from?"
Su Ye looked at him seriously, "All I need to know is that my brother is amazing. Why you are amazing is your secret, and I won't pry."
Despite her young age, she was quite perceptive.
Take the unique Qi Cultivation Technique and qi refining pills, for instance; they were so much better than the ordinary ones, how could Su Ye not be curious about where her brother had learned them?
And now, the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken.
Yet Su Ye held back her curiosity and didn't ask.
It didn't matter to her where her brother's skills came from, as long as he was her brother, nothing else was a problem.
Perhaps, Su Mu's miraculous talents were a blessing from their parents in heaven.
With such a well-behaved and sensible sister, Su Mu truly cherished her from the bottom of his heart.

He nodded with a smile, his tone earnest, "You're right, I am a very amazing brother. I will definitely make you healthy and give you a good life, making you the happiest sister in the world!"
"Ha ha, that would be wonderful," Su Ye said happily.
The two arrived at the spiritual bird meat section and, after looking around, actually found the prepared Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken meat.
Although it was frozen and the chickens were farmed, the price wasn't cheap: 52,000 per pound.
No wonder the Da Fu Rong Restaurant charged 66,000 for just a few slices of the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken. Apart from the restaurant's profiteering, the expensive raw materials were also a factor.
But for Su Mu, as long as it benefited his sister's health, it was worth the price no matter how expensive.
He pointed to the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken meat in the freezer and said to the supermarket staff, "Excuse me, could you weigh two pounds for me?"
Su Ye tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "Brother, it's too expensive, maybe we shouldn't buy it."
Su Mu knew his sister was worried about the cost and turned to her with a smile, "Don't worry, we have money now. Plus, half of this chicken is for you to eat, and the other half I'll use to make money. Not only will we recoup the cost, but we might even earn enough for your second surgery fee."
He planned in his mind: Since Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken is expensive, he could put less meat in each dish of spiritual cuisine, just a thin two or three slices would do as long as it didn't affect the efficacy. After all, people eating this dish are after its energy, memory, and Comprehension enhancing effects, so the quantity consumed is irrelevant. Eating less could also prevent being overly full, which might impact an examinee's state during tests.
Hmm, this isn't being stingy, nor is it being a profiteer, it's considering the needs of the examinees!
His intentions were truly thoughtful!
Seeing her brother so full of confidence, with a hint of a profiteer's flair, Su Ye hesitated for a moment then closed her mouth, choosing not to say more.
The supermarket staff quickly weighed two pounds of Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken meat, wrapped it in cling film, and placed it in the basket Su Mu was carrying.
Then, Su Mu led Su Ye to buy some side dishes and seasonings needed for making Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken, including a few special, pricey spices. After checking out, the total came to about 130,000 to 140,000.
It goes without saying, spiritual ingredients and Medicinal Materials are not something the average person can afford.
Back home, Su Mu immediately went to the kitchen and began preparing the chicken and mixing the sauce according to the perfect version of the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken recipe.
The tempting aroma quickly wafted out from the kitchen.
Su Ye couldn't resist, drooling as she entered the kitchen, her eyes fixed on Su Mu like a little kitten waiting for its owner to feed it.
Su Mu laughed, "What's this? Didn't you just eat? Are you hungry again so soon?"
"I'm not really hungry, it's just that what you're cooking smells so good, I couldn't help myself..."
Before Su Ye could finish, saliva began to dribble from the corner of her mouth. Embarrassed, she quickly covered her mouth and turned red all over.
"Ha ha."
Su Mu found it amusing but also felt a touch of pride.
"Go wipe off that drool, you little Greedy Cat. Alright, once it's ready, I'll give you a piece. Don't complain it's too little; your body is weak, and eating too much isn't good for you. From now on, every five or six days, you can have a few pieces to help replenish your depleted righteous qi as soon as possible."
Su Ye swallowed her saliva and nodded repeatedly.
At this moment, many people in the apartment building caught the scent of the Bang Bang Shangfu Chicken that Su Mu was preparing.
The aroma was so enticing that it made their mouths water.
Quite a few residents simply opened their doors and stood in the hallway, asking around to find out who was enjoying such a delicious treat. Unfortunately, despite their inquiries, they came up empty-handed. Some tried to follow the delicious scent to its source, but their noses weren't sharp enough.
Eventually, they gave up and went back to their homes, some boiling a pot of instant noodles, others heating up leftovers from dinner, all while enhancing their meal with the lingering fragrance from Su Mu's cooking.
They couldn't help it; if they didn't eat something, they felt they wouldn't survive.
And then there were some naughty kids who were driven crazy by their cravings, crying and clamoring for the delicious smelling food. Pushed to their limits, their parents had no choice but to settle them down with a meal of "bamboo shoots and meat.1 "
Rubbing the red marks on their bottoms, the naughty kids shed 'tears of joy'.
Footnotes:
Bamboo shoots and meat(竹笋炒肉): The implied meaning of "竹笋炒肉" (bamboo shoots and meat) often refers to being spanked, especially when children are disobedient. Parents use this phrase to threaten or intimidate the child, hinting that if they do not correct their mistakes, they will face corporal punishment. This expression originates from the past when people used bamboo tools, such as bamboo sticks, branches, or roots, as well as feather dusters or brooms made of bamboo, for disciplining children. Therefore, when a child misbehaves, parents might jokingly say, "If you don't behave, you'll be treated to bamboo shoots and meat."
