Chapter 27 - Examination Day
June 7th.
Su Mu, as usual, woke up before five in the morning. Right on time at five o'clock, he took his qi refining pill and practiced the Qi Cultivation Technique, absorbing the energy of the morning air.
Today was Examination Day, so it was even more crucial to focus on his practice. Although his spiritual qi value had already surpassed the major milestone of 1000, he couldn't slack off. Every extra point mattered, not only for his final score but also for the cultivation university he would be assigned to after successfully passing the examination.
The better the cultivation university, the stronger the faculty and resources available.
Even with a pay-to-win cheat that required him to spend money, Su Mu couldn't afford to let his guard down.
"The path to knowledge through hard work is like a mountain climb, the endless sea of learning like sailing through hardships," this saying applied to spiritual practice as well.
At seven o’clock, when Su Mu finished his practice and opened his eyes, he saw the breakfast prepared by his younger sister.
Vegetable porridge and eggs... simple, yet delicious.
After washing up, Su Mu sat at the dining table and had breakfast with his sister.
He rested for a little while longer, and as the time approached, Su Mu exhaled a breath of turbid air, stood up, and said, "I'm off!"
Su Ye opened her mouth, wanting to say a lot but not knowing where to start. In the end, she just raised her arm and vigorously waved, shouting only two words: "Good luck!"
Su Mu smiled and affectionately pinched her cheek, "Wait for my good news."
Upon leaving the house, he encountered several neighbors who all knew about his examination today. They all cheered him on.
Stepping out of the residential community's gate, Su Mu was about to scan for a shared bicycle when a head popped out from a private car parked by the road, calling out, "Su Mu, you're going for the examination, right? Get in!"
Su Mu turned to see that the person calling him was an uncle from the neighborhood.
Looking again, he saw that there were already three students in the car, all from their final year of high school, some from No.7 High School, and others from different schools.
"Uncle, what’s this about?"
"I'm off work today, and rather than sitting idle, I decided to volunteer and drive you examinees to the test center. Come on, get in."
"Oh, in that case, I won't be polite, thank you, Uncle."
With a car ride offered, Su Mu naturally wouldn't stubbornly insist on using a shared bicycle. He jogged over, opened the door, got in the car, and greeted the other three examinees.
They politely responded, and it was evident they were all nervous.
The neighbor uncle started the car and headed towards the examination site. Even though the roads were bustling with traffic, it was very quiet. At every intersection, there were banners with slogans like "Examination in progress, please do not honk."
This year's examination site was at the city stadium.
One intersection away from the stadium, the neighbor uncle had to stop the car because the road ahead was blocked off to prevent regular vehicles from entering. All cars dropping off examinees could only let them out nearby.
"I can only take you this far. Good luck with the exam, and hopefully, you all get into a cultivation university!" The neighbor uncle turned back, cheering and encouraging the four of them.
"Thank you, Uncle. With your blessing, we'll definitely do our best," Su Mu said gratefully. The other three examinees also snapped out of their nervousness, thanked him, and got out of the car.
The disembarking spot was around three to five hundred meters from the city stadium, with the road filled with people, comprising examinees, parents, and teachers.
With over twenty thousand examinees from the entire city, plus their parents and teachers... the crowd surrounding the sports stadium was easily thirty to forty thousand strong.
Every person's expression was tense. Even those who were confident in themselves and sure of their success in the examination for cultivation couldn't help but feel the pressure of the environment and the atmosphere.
Su Mu had just arrived at the entrance of the stadium and was looking for his teacher and classmates when he heard a cry laced with tears from nearby: "Oh no, I forgot my examination admission ticket!"

Like the other students and parents around him, Su Mu turned his head towards the source of the outcry.
A student was frantically sweating as his parents incessantly scolded him. It was one thing to be scatterbrained usually, but to forget the examination admission ticket at home on the day of the examination for cultivation...
The police approached and after quickly understanding the situation, first addressed the worried parents, "Enough, save your words. What’s the use of complaining now? You're only making your child more nervous. If this affects their performance, it’ll be too late for regrets."
Then to the careless student, the officer said, "Forgot your examination admission ticket at home, right? Come on, I’ll take you back to get it." He grabbed the student and headed towards a motorcycle parked nearby.
"There's always someone who forgets their examination admission ticket each year. It's become a predictable drama."
"Don't these people think to check their belongings before leaving home?"
"Don't talk about others, hurry up and check your own things to make sure you didn't forget your examination admission ticket."
As the crowd murmured among themselves, they began to check their own belongings.
If anyone discovered their examination admission ticket missing now, they still had time to retrieve it with the help of the police. But if they waited until the examination for cultivation was about to start, it would be too late.
Su Mu also checked his pockets to confirm his examination admission ticket was there—no melodramatic scenarios for him.
He then found his classmates and the class teacher.
The class teacher was giving the final instructions before the examination:
"Once the bell rings, line up and enter the examination hall in an orderly manner, don't push or shove."
"In the past couple of years, because of crowding and jostling, some examinees were disqualified from the examination for cultivation, directly expelled from the examination hall. Don't gamble with your future."
"After entering the examination hall, find your assigned place as indicated on your examination admission ticket, stand there, and when the examination for cultivation begins, concentrate and channel your spiritual qi with all your might. Understand? Don't be nervous or panic, just do as you've practiced and show your best performance..."
In truth, the teacher had repeated these instructions countless times, but he couldn't help but reiterate them once more.
Everyone listened more intently than usual.
After waiting for about twenty minutes, a bell began to ring.
This bell sound wasn't like the electric bells heard in schools but resembled the sound of wind chimes, 'ding ding dong dong,' soft and pleasant to the ear. And yet, it clearly reached everyone, despite the surrounding noise. It could be heard distinctly.
Moreover, it had a calming effect, soothing the nerves and settling the mind.
The class teacher's expression turned solemn as he clapped his hands and said, "Go line up. Do well on your test. I'll be waiting outside for the good news."
Su Mu and his classmates, following the instructions on their examination admission tickets, made their way to entrance number 8.
They were about to enter the stadium, which had been set up as the examination venue.
Several police officers stood at entrance 8, their role was simply to maintain order and to respond to any unforeseen situations.
It was a runic formation that was responsible for checking the examinees' admission tickets. The examinees just had to hold up their tickets and walk through the runes.
Many people had already passed through the runic formation without incident, prompting some to wonder if it was actually functional or just for show.
However, at that moment, an alarm suddenly blared!
The piercing, urgent sound made everyone's scalp tingle.
It was coming from the runic formation!
What had happened?
