Chapter 4: Could You Please Do the Honor of Ending Your Own Life?
Yu Sheng returned home, weary, and sat on the sofa with a thoughtful expression.
A hunch had been forming in his mind, yet it was so radical that he hesitated to accept it.
Could it be, if the Dragon Pattern Staff represented his own Awakened Item after hatching, and there were many more such items in the Scroll within his mind, that it proved he had the chance to awaken multiple times?
Since the resurgence of spiritual energy, there had been only two recorded instances of multiple awakenings in the past century.
Furthermore, both individuals shared a common trait: their Awakened Items were quite ordinary.
The first person hatched a scythe and a keyboard.
The second, a squirrel and a pair of scissors.
Even though dual awakenings were rare, and Mo Pavilion had invested resources to cultivate such individuals, the efforts had been fruitless.
The consumption of resources was too great, and the Awakened Items were unimpressive, leading to minimal impact.
However, Yu Sheng's case was different. The Dragon Pattern Staff looked impressively cool. If his guess was correct, his path ahead might be much smoother.
The sky had gradually darkened. Gazing at the starlight outside the window, Yu Sheng found himself momentarily distracted.
The normally resolute man finally seemed a bit vulnerable, his straight back slightly bent as if bearing a burden.
But this posture lasted only a few seconds before Yu Sheng's expression subtly changed. He held his breath and leaned back slightly, perfectly blending into the darkness.
Even with the moonlight, the room didn't seem too dark, yet his location was indiscernible, as if there was no person present.
The room fell into absolute silence.
Seconds ticked by.
Suddenly, a faint noise came from the door. The handle turned gently, opening a crack.
Through the moonlight, the silhouette of a young person could be seen stealthily entering and then closing the door behind them, standing motionless against the wall.
Another half-minute passed, and a squad from the Security Bureau ran past the window, vigilantly scanning the surroundings as if searching for something, before disappearing into the distance.
The person at the door finally let out a sigh of relief, their body suddenly relaxing as they sat down on the floor, coughing softly.
Seemingly unaware of Yu Sheng, after resting for a moment, the Youth struggled to his feet. Illuminated by the moonlight, he looked around and, finding no one, moved to sit on the sofa to tend to the ferocious wound on his chest.
The wound was deep, likely caused by a knife, with the skin and flesh partly rolled back.
The Youth furrowed his brows slightly, lifting his head to scan the surroundings as if measuring something.
"Medicinal liquor is on the second shelf up front."
Out of nowhere, Yu Sheng's calm voice came from behind.
The Youth's body tensed up immediately, and as he was about to get up, a dagger was already pressed against his neck, not merely threatening, but with enough force to pierce the skin.
The entire blade sank half a centimeter in.
"It's best not to move."
"The dagger is very close to your carotid artery. A little more force and you could die."
"Cleaning blood off the floor is a hassle."
Yu Sheng frowned as he spoke, seemingly recalling some unpleasant imagery.
The Youth remained rigid, not daring to move, whispering, "I'm only here for the medicine; I mean no harm."
"Oh, the medicinal liquor is on the second shelf up front."
Yu Sheng repeated seriously.
...
The Youth fell silent again, maintaining his position.
The two were once again locked in a standoff, with blood from the Youth's neck dripping down the blade and onto the floor, the 'drip, drip' sound echoing intermittently in the dark room.
"Why don't you take the medicine?"
"Your injury is serious."
Yu Sheng reminded kindly.
The Youth's face had grown pale from blood loss, his body trembling slightly, but because of the dagger at his neck, he couldn't make any movements.
He saw the medicine, including the bandages. He wanted to reach for it, but the crux of the problem was...
Would you please remove the knife?

"I feel much better now, no need for medicine."
The Youth slowly spoke, "Are you going to kill me?"
Yu Sheng shook his head earnestly, "It's illegal to kill someone outside of Sin City."
Hearing Yu Sheng's words, the Youth let out a slight sigh of relief, and his tense muscles relaxed a bit. "The mountains are high and the path is long; I owe you my life, and I will repay this debt."
Yet Yu Sheng still showed no intention of moving the dagger, and after pondering for several seconds, he asked, "Since you owe me your life, can you commit suicide?"
...
The Youth, who had been very composed until now, was a bit taken aback, as if trying to process Yu Sheng's bizarre line of thought.
This was his first encounter with such a proposition.
"I'm an assassin. Would it suffice if I kill someone for you, free of charge?"
The Youth struggled again.
Yu Sheng nodded, "Alright, then please do me the favor of killing yourself."
As if it were the natural course of things, like clouds flowing across the sky.
The Youth was teetering on the brink of collapse, looking pained, not just physically, but emotionally as well.
"With no grudges, why do you insist on my death?"
He finally voiced the question that had been plaguing his mind.
The question had been stifling him for too long, and he couldn't hold it in any longer.
Yu Sheng seemed baffled, "Because you snuck into my room at night and dirtied my floor."
"In Sin City, you would have been dead the moment you entered."
...
"Sin City..."
"You're from Sin City?"
The Youth realized, his emotions stirring, but he quickly spoke again, "Impossible, Sin City only offers one amnesty per year, and you're too young to have secured it."
"Forget it, there's no need to fuss over this anymore."
"I concede. Go ahead."
With that, the Youth resignedly closed his eyes, following the ritual of those about to die, reflecting on his life.
But...
Even after going through his memories for the fifth time, the dagger at his neck still had not fallen.
"Why don't you do it?"
The Youth couldn't help but ask again.
Yu Sheng looked at him as if he were looking at a fool: "It's illegal to kill someone outside of Sin City."
"Then let me go!"
The Youth began to grow agitated and anxious.
Yu Sheng shook his head: "No release."
"That's illegal detention, which is also a crime!"
"Under Mo Pavilion's criminal law, it's punishable by a fixed-term imprisonment of three years, and in serious cases, five to eight years!"
The Youth had an epiphany, suddenly grasping some crucial understanding, and he spoke rapidly, educating with professional knowledge.
Yu Sheng appeared contemplative: "How old are you?"
"I'm seventeen. Under Mo Pavilion's legal system, I'm still a minor. If you detain me illegally, the punishment will be even more severe!"
The Youth, as if he had found the code to survival, became more coherent, effectively delivering a lesson in legal awareness right there and then.
"Seventeen, huh?"
"That means you haven't had your Awakening..."
Yu Sheng slowly lowered the dagger, turned to the Youth with a grin, showing a friendly smile: "You can go now, goodbye."
Saying this, he even waved his hand in a warm gesture.
