Chapter 17: Attack of the Dog Demon
The dog's speed was incredible, covering a hundred meters in almost a breath's time, arriving at the factory gate in a flash.
Yet, it suddenly halted, its back slightly arched, even its fur bristling as if sensing something.
Inside the control room.
The Driver, lying on the bed, turned over and muttered something in his sleep.
The other two in the room, watching the dog on the screen, couldn't help but frown and exchanged glances.
"A dog demon?"
"It's only recently transformed, but why would it appear in such a remote place?"
"Could it be that fool Luo Yun's doing?"
"This isn't a joke!"
"Is he expecting some apprentices who haven't even left school to slay a demon?"
The dissatisfaction was clear in their voices.
"Such a minor demon can't cause much trouble."
"Besides, Luo Yun will take the blame."
The Driver, as if just waking up, stretched lazily and glanced at the monitor with bleary eyes, speaking disinterestedly.
"Have you considered the consequences if something really goes wrong?"
"This is playing with lives!"
"And what if the dog demon wasn’t released by Luo Yun?"
Monitor A rebuked the Driver angrily.
Monitor B nodded in agreement.
"Can't you see? There are traces of a Demon Locking Ring around the dog demon's neck."
"And..."
"Which human's rise to merit hasn't been accompanied by bloodshed?"
"Do you think peace can be achieved by studying in a classroom?"
"Always the Clerk, too delicate by half."
The Driver’s lips curled in a mocking smile as he slowly sat up, lit a cigarette, and shed his jacket to reveal a dark red shirt underneath.
On the right sleeve of the shirt, a merit badge was affixed.
Featured on it was a single stripe.
Seeing this badge, any hint of anger in Monitor A and B subsided instantly, their eyes reflecting respect as they looked at the Driver.
"Looks like there’s finally some excitement."
"Time to stretch our muscles."
The Driver, cigarette dangling from his lips, casually pulled a chair over, squeezed himself between the two monitors, and sat down to watch the screen. He tapped off the ash from his cigarette, a hint of excitement in his voice as he muttered, "Let's get started!"
"Let's see what that little guy can really do."
Almost the moment his words fell, the dog demon outside, previously hesitant, seemed to sense the disappearance of danger. It let out a low growl and the next second, it charged into the factory, sniffing around incessantly.
After identifying its target, it dashed directly towards the group of students, occasionally colliding with various objects, making noises.
Under these strange circumstances, the students finally woke up, groggy.
Almost immediately, they saw the dog demon's crimson eyes in the darkness.
Those eyes were chilling.
Ferocious, greedy, choosing its prey.
The main issue was, these students had always been sheltered in the safety of the city, never experiencing such a scene.
Though the school had taught them emergency responses to demon beast attacks in the wild, in their panic, all were fledglings, completely at a loss.
The two teachers were the first to react.

They instinctively stood up, positioning themselves in front of the students with phantoms gradually emerging behind them.
"Do you think this is for the students' good?"
Liu Qingfeng opened his eyes, looking at the silhouettes of the two teachers, and spoke softly.
The two hesitated.
Looking at the dog demon in front of them and then at the students behind, they ultimately gritted their teeth and stepped back.
However, before they completely withdrew, they chose to intimidate the dog demon with their aura, buying the students a few crucial seconds.
In the face of life and death, those few seconds were decisive.
The students mustered their courage, continuously recalling what their teachers had taught them in class.
Du Xu was the first to take action.
He silently picked up a wooden stick nearby, holding it in his hand and standing at the forefront of everyone.
His sturdy physique gave everyone a sense of inexplicable security.
Even his full beard, which usually seemed rough, now appeared somewhat comforting.
Zhao Zicheng was frantically searching for Yu Sheng but couldn't spot him anywhere, which puzzled him. However, he quickly gritted his teeth, charged forward, and positioned himself next to Du Xu, continuously muttering words of encouragement to himself under his breath.
"Not scared, not scared!"
"My dad is the Director of the Security Bureau!"
"Not scared!"
Despite his words, his face was noticeably pale. Yet regardless of the fear in his heart, he didn’t take a single step back.
Amidst the chaos, a few more people stepped forward, forming a line at the front, but most still instinctively shrank back.
The two teachers watched this scene with a hint of helplessness, sighed softly, and withdrew their aura.
The dog demon became more agitated again. Its bloodthirsty gaze fixed on the humans in front of it, who seemed like mere supplements to it. Its mind, devoid of any rational thought, couldn’t discern what its fate would be that day. It was driven by a primal desire that told it...
Eat them.
With a low growl, the dog demon charged again. Du Xu was the calmest person there, gripping his wooden stick and advancing instead of retreating.
He bravely faced the dog demon's sharp claws, swinging his stick with a whoosh. The stick, damp and brittle, snapped immediately.
The dog demon merely shook its head slightly, while Du Xu’s arm now bore a bloody scratch.
As if the scent of blood made it even crazier, the dog demon became more restless and agitated.
...
"He's got some guts."
"Just a bit foolish, doesn’t he know the dog demon’s head is the toughest part?"
"Utterly clueless."
"Reminds me of those simpletons, all brawn and no brains."
In the control room, watching this scene, the Driver smacked his lips and spoke with a tone of mockery. However, his eyes showed genuine admiration for Du Xu.
As a military man, he always appreciated these tough, straightforward types.
Especially during his time in the Reserve Forces, these kinds of guys...
Made for a really satisfying fight.
They take a beating and keep on going.
Always up for another round.
However, he quickly shifted his gaze away. This newly transformed dog demon wasn't much of a threat. With enough people and a bit of courage, it could certainly be handled.
Moreover, those present were the elite of the school.
He even caught himself thinking that if someone were to unfortunately die in this incident, it might actually benefit the others.
It could potentially motivate one or two of them to emerge as truly promising talents.
Unfortunately...
These were just students, not soldiers.
