Chapter 11: Kid, Are You Not Afraid of Me?
Zhao Zicheng nodded thoughtfully, then reassured, returned to his original seat.
Yu Sheng, however, kept his eyes on the Driver.
He appeared calm.
But the hand leaning against the wall was hidden in his sleeve.
Just as the Driver had said.
The journey lasted only about five minutes. From a distance, a deserted factory came into view. The school bus slowly entered and stopped.
By this time, the factory's grounds were sparsely populated with over twenty people.
Some were students in school uniforms, along with a few middle-aged.
From afar, Yu Sheng also spotted his homeroom teacher, Liu Qingfeng.
The school bus stopped.
"Sure enough, Du Xu is here too."
"A genius of Six Stripes!"
Zhao Zicheng didn't rush to disembark. Instead, he stared at a certain figure, his expression solemn.
Li Kai looked puzzled, "Which one is Du Xu?"
"See that man with a full beard?"
Zhao Zicheng pointed in the direction of a figure from the bus window.
It was a... well... person.
The beard was dense across his face, like a mask, thoroughly concealing his features, leaving only a pair of unflustered eyes visible.
"That's not just a face with a beard."
"It's clearly a beard with a face on it."
Yu Sheng exclaimed through the window.
For a moment, the other three surprisingly agreed, exchanging glances and nodding in approval.
"Let's go, people and teachers from the other two schools have arrived."
"Yu Sheng, although we haven't settled things between us, I hope you still be careful around that Du Xu."
"This man... is strong."
"I hope you don't let down our No.2 High School!"
Zhao Zicheng looked at Yu Sheng with a face full of seriousness, mixed with the unique melodramatic air of a youth.
"Okay."
Yu Sheng nodded lightly and stepped off the school bus with Zhao Zicheng and the other two.
The bus Driver also got off, leaned against the vehicle, lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, and staggered into the factory, opening a rusty iron door.
In the damp room, two middle-aged men sat with a series of screens before them, projecting images of the empty space outside.
"How's it going?"
The Driver casually pulled up a stool and sat down, asking.
The other two shook their heads.
"Low vigilance, too easily believes strangers," one commented.
"Rather naive in thinking," added the other.
"The higher-ups are oversimplifying things. Autonomous governance in remote cities is nothing but a pipe dream," the first man said, his voice tinged with disappointment.
The smoking Driver, thoughtful, nodded and focused on the surveillance footage, particularly on Yu Sheng.
"This kid is somewhat interesting."
"There might be some surprises with him."
Recalling Yu Sheng's actions on the school bus, the Driver remarked offhandedly, but soon chuckled: "But let's not hold too high expectations."
"This mission is basically a waste of time."
"Hard to say what the higher-ups are thinking."
"Let the fools at Demon Exorcism Pavilion busy themselves. I'm going to take a nap."
With that, he stretched languidly and comfortably lay down on the only single bed in the corner, which, despite its moldy sheets, seemed a luxurious indulgence to him.
"No assignments, what a relief."

He sighed contentedly, closed his eyes, and within moments, began to snore softly.
The other two exchanged a glance, their eyes reflecting a hint of resignation, and refocused on the surveillance screens.

Factory Grounds.
"I'm leading the team this time."
"The specifics of the assessment are still unclear; we'll know once someone from Demon Exorcism Pavilion arrives."
"However, during the apprentice stage, this is the only time everyone starts on the same level, regardless of talent."
"At most, he's just a bit stronger than you."
"So, this is a precious opportunity for you all."
"Remember..."
"No matter what the assessment involves, you must remain cautious and composed. Only then will you stand a better chance than the others!"
Liu Qingfeng spoke sternly to the group.
Zhao Zicheng nodded vigorously, his gaze returning to Du Xu, now filled with a fighting spirit.
Indeed, everyone was in their apprentice stage.
None had fully awakened, unable to use special abilities.
It was a contest of will!
And in terms of will, Zhao Zicheng was second to none!
As time passed, it was now the afternoon, and under the scorching sun, the members of the Demon Exorcism Pavilion had yet to arrive.
The group of students, still in their youth, began to grow increasingly impatient.
As the sun gradually set, an old off-road vehicle finally appeared in the distance, kicking up a cloud of dust as it rushed into the factory grounds.
The dust settled on the fifteen students present, causing most of them to instinctively frown and step back.
The car door opened.
A middle-aged, muscular man wearing sunglasses and a cigarette dangling from his lips stepped down from the vehicle. He casually glanced around, his gaze settling on the teachers present, especially when he spotted Liu Qingfeng.
"Old Liu?"
"Holy shit, I've been looking for you for years! Where have you been?"
Ignoring the students around him, he quickly walked up to Liu Qingfeng and clapped him on the shoulder with force.
Liu Qingfeng's expression subtly changed upon seeing the muscular man. He remained silent for a few seconds before regaining his composure. "I'm teaching now."
"What?"
"You're freaking teaching...?"
The muscular man looked at Liu Qingfeng with disbelief, his eyes scanning him until they noticed Liu Qingfeng's missing little finger on his right hand, and his voice abruptly stopped.
"Well!"
"Teaching's not bad, at least it's more peaceful than living on the edge like we used to."
He slapped Liu Qingfeng's shoulder again, his breathing a bit heavy, but his face showed envy.
However, perhaps due to his poor acting skills, his expression seemed a bit exaggerated.
Realizing this, the muscular man quickly changed the subject: "Which ones are your students?"
Liu Qingfeng pointed toward Yu Sheng and the others, his usually stern expression softened slightly with a rare smile.
The muscular man removed his sunglasses and took another fierce drag on his cigarette, revealing a slight smile.
However...
To the students, this smile seemed rather sinister.
Especially the eyes that were revealed once the sunglasses came off.
Just one look seemed to evoke visions of mountains of corpses and seas of blood, sending shivers down one's spine.
Seeing the students' fearful expressions, the muscular man seemed particularly pleased, his smile broadening. But then he paused, his gaze settling on Yu Sheng, or more precisely, on Yu Sheng's calm eyes.
"Kid, you're not afraid of me?"
The smile slowly faded from the muscular man's face, and his voice turned cold.
In that moment, a faint aura of menace seemed to spread through the air.
Though it was just one sentence, it carried an immense pressure.
