Chapter 23: A Reward of 100,000
"Are you sure Luo Yun and Wang Wenxuan are both in Mobei?"
"Has Zhao Qingyi also appeared in Baichun?"
"Mhm, I understand."
A young man toyed with the cellphone in his hand, a hint of a smile playing on his lips. "A riot in Xinhai, and several of Baichun's tough guys are absent..."
"Do they really think I'm a fool..."
"We can set off now."
"Take the old road; be cautious. There shouldn't be any accidents."
He sipped a glass of red wine, spoke into the phone, gazing out at the moon through the window, and lazily leaned back on the sofa.
...
Inside a factory.
A group of students, with a dazed expression, got up from the floor.
Although they didn't fully understand what had happened, one thing was certain—they were safe.
The fearsome dog demon had only lasted a few rounds in Yu Sheng's hands?
For a moment, everyone felt a bit despondent.
The assessment hadn't concluded yet, but the outcome seemed inevitable.
They were all apprentices; why was the disparity so vast? Could it really be that they were... too useless?
Suddenly.
"Walking with the Gods!"
A fervent shout came from outside, and then a man dressed like a beggar burst in, immediately fixing his gaze on them.
An awakened item appeared behind the beggar.
It was a broken bowl.
The bowl was embedded with a somewhat dim crystal. In terms of quality, it was far inferior to Luo Yun's.
Yet, despite this, he was still an awakened!
And he was...
A level one awakened!
His physical strength and reaction speed far surpassed those of the students.
Though he was still some distance away, the crystal on the bowl behind the beggar emitted a faint glow. With energy infused into it, the bowl expanded in the wind, becoming like... a large iron pot?
He grasped it firmly in his hand, exuding a domineering presence.
"People from the Cult?"
"What's going on?"
"Isn't a level one awakened too difficult for an assessment?"
The two leading teachers were somewhat displeased.
"It's just reckless!"
"If we're not allowed to intervene, someone could really get hurt!"
"We can't go on, the assessment must be stopped!"
Ultimately, the two teachers made a decision. Just as they were about to step forward, Liu Qingfeng silently blocked their path.
"It's not time to intervene yet."
"Let's watch a bit longer."
"Perhaps, this will be the most vivid lesson of their lives."
He spoke calmly.
The teachers exchanged glances and eventually retracted the energy that had started to stir within them.
"Cult?"
"What do we do? I've heard those Cult folks don't blink an eye at murder!"
"This isn't part of the assessment as well, is it?"
The students panicked once again.
From a young age, they had been fed the notion by teachers, parents, and Mo Pavilion that people from the Cult were thoroughly insane.
For their own benefit, they were capable of anything.

And a level one awakened was much stronger than the dog demon they had just managed to defeat by combining their efforts. Most importantly... humans, they are intelligent.
Their gazes instinctively fell on Yu Sheng.
This time, everyone was very conscious.
Under Zhao Zicheng's lead, they clutched their chests and collectively fell to the ground.
Yu Sheng was bewildered.
Zhao Zicheng even stealthily raised his eyebrows at Yu Sheng, as if to say, look at us, aren't we sensible!
"Murder is illegal."
Yu Sheng muttered painfully, his gaze drifting toward the beggar who was getting closer by the moment, somewhat lost in thought.
Just as the beggar raised the giant bowl to smash it down on him, Yu Sheng moved back like a specter.
The giant bowl crashed to the ground, creating a thunderous noise.
The impact even left a large crater in the ground.
Yu Sheng, blending into the darkness, moved silently, perfectly positioned in the beggar's blind spot. A crossbow appeared in his hands, aimed at the temple of the beggar.
Yet, with a sense of resignation, he eventually put it away.
Murder... why is it illegal?
Truly an unreasonable rule.
At this moment, the beggar's eyes filled with bloodshot veins, and having lost sight of Yu Sheng, he didn't pause but instead accelerated towards the students.
The students still lying on the ground maintained calm expressions, seemingly content to just lie there and let Yu Sheng carry the burden.
It was as if they had fully grasped the true meaning of winning by doing nothing.
Liu Qingfeng remained unmoved, his gaze fixed on a spot in the darkness, unblinking.
There was a mix of anticipation and disappointment in his eyes.
As the beggar drew perilously close to the students, a gleam of green light flashed again in Liu Qingfeng's eyes.
At that moment.
The figure in the darkness moved again.
Silently appearing behind the beggar.
Fingers deftly spinning a knife blade, initially aimed unconsciously at the figure’s throat, but quickly adjusting with some awkwardness, the blade found the beggar's right arm instead.
Accompanied by a splash of blood, a deep, bone-exposing gash appeared on the beggar's arm.
Pain igniting his crazed gaze.
"Walking with the Gods!"
"May the divine glory endure forever!"
Roaring, the beggar turned and charged clumsily yet swiftly at Yu Sheng.
Although his movements were awkward, his speed was extremely fast.
In almost an instant, he was upon Yu Sheng, shouldering towards his chest.
But in the dark night, the slight figure of Yu Sheng fluttered like a falling leaf, always just out of the beggar's reach. Despite the beggar knowing that a single punch could end Yu Sheng, he always missed by just a hair.
His punches, each nearly grazing Yu Sheng's body, only resulted in more wounds on his own body.
Driven wild by his injuries, the beggar's speed and ferocity increased.
But Yu Sheng became increasingly awkward in his movements, repeatedly hesitating and pulling back his punches, his face marked with frustration.
Liu Qingfeng watched this unfold, seemingly coming to a realization.
"Yu Sheng!"
"Members of the Cult can be killed!"
His voice carried across, but Yu Sheng remained silent, continuing to grapple at the beggar's side.
Liu Qingfeng sighed in slight exasperation and added, "Killing members of the Cult... is not illegal."
"Level one awakening, a reward of one hundred thousand." After a pause, he added another line.
Almost the instant Liu Qingfeng's words fell, Yu Sheng, who had seemed awkward just moments before, suddenly became sharp in his movements. Like a ghost, he took advantage of the beggar's swinging fist to move in close.
Then, turning around, he calmly watched him.
The beggar appeared somewhat bewildered, the madness in his eyes gradually subsiding, regaining a bit of sanity mixed with fear. He clutched his neck in pain.
Strands of fresh blood dripped through his fingers, soaking his clothes but cleverly not spilling onto the ground.
The beggar desperately tried to breathe, but he no longer had the chance. Ultimately, he fell heavily to the ground, kicking up dust.
Even in death, his posture was flat, strategically minimizing any blood from hitting the ground.
