Chapter 18: Legal Awareness Segment
"That little guy is really annoying though."
Driver blurted out abruptly.
The other two were baffled, instinctively scanning through the monitors, trying to figure out who Driver was referring to.
But they ended up finding nothing.
"No, wait!"
"Where's Yu Sheng?"
Monitor A was quick to react, realizing something was amiss. He frantically searched through each camera feed, but to no avail.
Yu Sheng seemed to have vanished into thin air.
"Stop looking!"
"If you could find him, you wouldn't still be working as clerks."
Driver quipped, stood up, and casually slid open the noisy iron door, ignoring the sound as he did so.
Yu Sheng was standing right there at the doorway, calmly making eye contact with Driver.
Neither of them spoke.
"How did you find this place!" Monitor A asked, slightly frowning at Yu Sheng in the doorway.
"Footprints."
Yu Sheng pointed to the ground.
On the slightly dusty floor, under the light, one could indeed see footprints, though they were faint.
They had arrived half a day early, and the factory was quite dusty. Half a day was enough to cover their tracks extensively, making them easy to overlook.
Plus, with teachers and students coming in, making a lot of noise, most of the footprints had been thoroughly obliterated.
Could it be that every single person from Sin City is... this twisted??
For a moment, both were plunged into deep self-doubt.
Soon, Monitor A thoughtfully looked at Driver.
He seemed to be the last one to come in.
He must have left...
"Don't look at me, I leave no footprints when I walk."
As if guessing his thoughts, Driver said indifferently, then looked at Yu Sheng with a hint of a smile, "Want to come in and sit?"
"Sure."
Yu Sheng nodded lightly and walked in with ease, looked around the modest surroundings, and finally sat on the edge of the bed.
"Why don't you go help your classmates?" Driver asked, pointing at the monitor screens, his voice carrying a hint of chill.
At this moment, Du Xu had several wounds on his body.
Zhao Zicheng and a few others who had chosen to stand out were in similar condition.
"They won't die, though."
Yu Sheng looked somewhat bewildered, not understanding why Driver would ask such a seemingly pointless question.
Driver was momentarily choked up, unable to retort.
But soon, he spoke again: "What if I said I won't intervene, and if you don't save them, they will all die!"
"What would you do?"
Yu Sheng was even more puzzled, giving Driver a strange look: "That dog demon is very weak. Even if you don't intervene, they won't die."
...
Driver was momentarily stunned, rubbing his hair in frustration: "What if!"
"What if the dog demon suddenly became stronger?"
Yu Sheng shook his head: "It won't get stronger."
"What if I goddamn help it get stronger, huh?"
Driver nearly roared.
Yu Sheng looked very serious, shaking his head earnestly: "That would count as indirect murder, or even premeditated murder. According to Article 75 of the Mo Pavilion Criminal Law, that's punishable by a minimum of seven years in prison, potentially even the death penalty."
His words were forceful and even carried a hint of admonition.
Driver: ???
Why the hell does it feel like I've just been sentenced to death in the middle of our conversation?
I was trying to teach him about unity and compassion, so how did I end up being the criminal?
The most absurd part is...
Why is this guy so familiar with the Criminal Law of Mo Pavilion!

Damn it!
I don't even know it that well myself.
"Fine!"
"If now, it's me who's going to kill them, would you save them?"
Driver took a deep breath, forcing himself to remain calm as he asked again.
Yu Sheng shook his head once more.
Driver's expression grew increasingly cold, his initial admiration for Yu Sheng gradually fading.
A selfish person, no matter how excellent, is of no benefit to humanity.
"They are your classmates."
"Are you really going to just watch them die?"
Driver spoke these words without any emotional fluctuation in his voice.
Yu Sheng looked at Driver, his gaze now filled with pity: "I can't defeat you, how can I save them... die with them?"
"Better to call the police and claim some compensation for them."
"According to the latest campus policy Article 162 issued by Mo Pavilion this year, students and apprentices who die while on duty are entitled to a compensation of 30,000 to 50,000."
"Additionally, as a witness who actively reports the murderer and provides information about the perpetrator, a reward will also be granted."
"Killing eleven apprentices qualifies as a major wanted criminal."
"I could get around a hundred thousand."
"With all this in mind..."
"Would you kill them?"
While speaking, Yu Sheng pondered and suddenly looked up, his eyes filled with a hint of anticipation.
Driver couldn't quite express what he was feeling at that moment.
It was like...
He wanted to end this awful conversation but also felt somewhat defiant.
He couldn't just concede.
"Have you considered that I might kill you too?"
A murderous aura began to emanate from Driver.
His gaze, now locked on Yu Sheng, carried a sense of disdain.
Yu Sheng shook his head: "I can't defeat you, but you can't kill me either."
The tension dissipated.
Driver, somewhat dejected, sank back into his chair, the powerful aura he had emitted vanishing instantly.
Monitor A and B exchanged glances, wiping the cold sweat from their foreheads.
Even they had almost believed that Driver was about to commit murder.
The pressure was palpable.
"I'll ask one last time, if your classmates are in danger and you happen to have the ability to save them."
"Would you help them?"
At this point, Driver had abandoned all pretense and asked sincerely.
Yu Sheng almost immediately nodded, his expression one of obvious certainty.
"Of course I would save them."
"According to Mo Pavilion Reward Policy Article 95, the Good Samaritan Award, and the Awakening Act Article 53, 'Acting Righteously and Courageously.'"
"For every person I save, and if I preserve the evidence, I can claim rewards at any Mo Pavilion."
"I've analyzed it carefully, and these two rewards can actually be claimed simultaneously."
"About... thirty thousand?"
...
Driver once again fell into thought.
This time, however, it wasn't out of anger, but regret.
It seemed... he had also acted righteously and courageously many times, right? He had rescued more than a dozen people in the wilderness, thirty thousand each...
That meant he had missed out on over three hundred thousand?
If he had that money, could he have exchanged it for a better quality crystal, and maybe made another breakthrough?
Most importantly...
Why does this guy know Mo Pavilion laws and policies so thoroughly?
