Chapter 26: Follow the Rules
"Ha ha, now you know why I didn't give you a lighter!"
After Yu Sheng left, Luo Yun emerged from the shadows, laughing. His hands and clothes were still smeared with fresh blood.
But Luo Yun was unconcerned; he casually slapped the bloody hand on Liu Qingfeng's shoulder.
Liu Qingfeng, expressionless, stepped back—a move even quicker than Luo Yun's descending hand.
Anticipating in advance.
"Your habit of slapping people's shoulders hasn't changed over the years," Liu Qingfeng said coolly.
Luo Yun was indifferent, casually wiping his blood-stained hands on his clothes. "Ah, I remember you used to be a man of few words, but decisive and swift in action."
"And not as refined as you are now."
"How did becoming a teacher change you so much?"
He picked up a cigarette pack nearby, lit one, and handed it to Liu Qingfeng.
As they passed the cigarette back and forth, it quickly became stained with blood.
Liu Qingfeng didn’t mind, taking the cigarette and inhaling deeply. "People change."
"It was only after I became a teacher that I realized..."
"Teachers and soldiers... they really are different."
"A soldier's job is to kill the enemy, whereas a teacher's duty is to ensure that their students survive on the battlefield as long as possible."
"Let's drop the subject."
"A remote area's assessment shouldn't require the intervention of a stalwart from the Demon Exorcism Pavilion."
"Got a plan?"
Exhaling a stream of smoke and flicking the ashes, Liu Qingfeng looked at Luo Yun.
Luo Yun shook his head. "You know the rules."
"Mm."
"Is the assessment still ongoing?"
Liu Qingfeng nodded knowingly; once a plan is set in motion by higher-ups, it's typically confidential.
"The assessments are mostly complete."
"Call Du Xu, and... and... ah right, Zhao Zicheng's boy did well."
"As for Yu Sheng, he’s tough, but he still needs further observation."
"However, the Reserve Forces will definitely like him."
Luo Yun gave it some serious thought and said, clearly wary of the Reserve Forces, muttering, "Those guys are all insane, and their way of thinking is just absurd."
"Can't deal with them."
"But really, the best place for him would probably be the Dark Pavilion..."
"They get paid to kill. It’s all about murder for hire."
Luo Yun actually began to contemplate Yu Sheng’s future career path.
Increasingly, it made sense to him: "Right, he should go to the Dark Pavilion. Who knows, maybe he’ll become another legendary fierce character."
Clearly, compared to the madmen of the Reserve Forces, the people of the Dark Pavilion seemed... well...
More terrifying.
That seemed about right.
If the Reserve Forces were a group of madmen,
Then the Dark Pavilion was a group of psychopaths.
By comparison, it made the folks from the Demon Exorcism Pavilion seem quite benign.
"He's still young."
"We'll talk about the future later."
"Remember the assessment rewards, don’t delay or Yu Sheng will get angry."
"If he thinks you've embezzled his property..."
Liu Qingfeng said cryptically before turning and walking away.
Meanwhile, Luo Yun fell into deep thought.
As if imagining something.
He shivered suddenly.
"I really need to get on this."
"If that tough guy gets stronger over the next few years, he might just be the death of me."
Muttering to himself, Luo Yun didn’t return to the dilapidated factory but drove off in his SUV, its engine roaring into the distance.
At this point in the assessment, the capabilities of these students were clear.
Continuing the assessment would just be a waste of time.

People say Luo Yun is a bit of a fool, but a fool, as everyone thought, managed to clearly understand these young ones with just a few simple combinations.
...
"Heh, Yu Sheng, don't worry, I'll handle this clearly and cleanly."
"You’ve got some free time these days, make a trip to the provincial city."
"Call me when you get there."
"I’ve got strong connections, I'll definitely sort it out!"
The Driver slapped his chest confidently, his words full of assurance.
Glancing suspiciously around, the Driver whispered, "Actually... you ended up saving people twice."
"I'll go back and edit the footage separately."
"We'll get paid double!"
"Pure profit!"
Imagining the blissful life after money starts rolling in, the Driver couldn’t help but smile.
However, Yu Sheng shook his head seriously.
"It doesn't count as two."
"Our job was to protect them, asking for money separately is against the rules."
"And those who don't follow the rules tend to die young."
Yu Sheng’s expression was stern, showing no signs of jest.
The smile slowly faded from the Driver’s lips as he scrutinized Yu Sheng, locking eyes until he was convinced there was no deceit, then nodded, "Alright, I understand."
Following the rules...
Having a partner who abides by the rules is something to look forward to!
"Hey, why don’t we add each other as friends? It would make chatting easier."
"Next time there’s an opportunity to collaborate, think of me... I mean, think of your elder brother."
"It’s my duty!"
"I’ll always have your back. Anyone who stands in the way of our fortune will be dealt with!"
The Driver finally revealed his true intentions.
He kept making promises.
But Yu Sheng slightly furrowed his brows.
A hint of worry crossed the Driver’s mind, thinking perhaps his overconfidence had made him appear boastful and unreliable to Yu Sheng.
He should have been more composed.
Damn!
As he was reflecting and even considering how to remedy the situation, Yu Sheng said sternly, "I’ve said before, murder is illegal!"
"If you continue harboring thoughts of killing, I will report you to the Mo Pavilion."
...
The Driver was stunned.
He was just trying to show some determination.
But Yu Sheng caught on to the wrong detail.
"Fine!"
"Don't worry, all that fighting and killing is the least interesting part."
"My name is Wang Wenxuan. Let’s exchange contact info."
"Heh heh heh."
But now Wang Wenxuan was also starting to grasp Yu Sheng’s limits and he chuckled, pretending it didn’t matter: "Right, right, here’s my ID."
"Wang. Mass Murderer. Outlaw!"
"..."
"Let me change my name real quick..."
Wang Wenxuan paused, realizing the error, and his fingers flew across the screen with a frenzy, demonstrating a lifetime of texting speed to choose a new name.
'Gentle Cute Bunny'
Taking a deep breath, Wang Wenxuan smiled again, visibly relieved as he watched Yu Sheng accept his friend request, finally feeling content.
Solid.
Absolutely solid!
Clinging to this golden opportunity, how could he not prosper if he sticks close to him?
Heh...
Maybe he could achieve his sixth awakening soon and become a true Grandmaster.
And if things go really well, maybe even advance to a seventh awakening Grandmaster... who knows, he might even outmatch his own boss!
At the thought, Wang Wenxuan grew more excited.
