Chapter 10: Stick with Me, There's a Future
On the school bus, Yu Sheng was alone.
Even the Driver had gone out for lunch.
Yet, Yu Sheng did not move.
Having spent many years in Sin City, he had long since developed the habit of skipping lunch—after all, the harsh environment of Sin City hardly allowed for such luxuries.
Even in the last two years, as Yu Sheng's circumstances had continually improved, he still maintained his past traditions.
About half an hour passed.
A group of three boys and a girl slowly walked out from the school gate, chatting and laughing with each other.
However, from their positions, it was clear that the more handsome one took the lead, with the other two instinctively lagging a half step behind.
Upon boarding the bus.
The handsome Youth noticed Yu Sheng almost immediately. With a friendly smile, he took a couple of steps forward and said, "Hello, my name is Zhao Zicheng, from Ninth Grade, Class Three."
"These two are Li Kai and Yang Ruoxin."
"We are classmates."
"May I ask your name?"
Zhao Zicheng seemed to carry a gentle demeanor, looking particularly gentlemanly, and likely came from a good family background.
The other two, however, seemed less enthusiastic, especially after glancing at Yu Sheng's frail figure, and simply nodded indifferently before sitting far away.
"Yu Sheng."
Yu Sheng nodded back at Zhao Zicheng but then fell silent again.
Zhao Zicheng didn't mind and instead took the opportunity to sit next to Yu Sheng.
"I have some insider information."
"This assessment is actually orchestrated by the Mo Pavilion."
"Our city is too remote and sparsely populated, so the Mo Pavilion doesn't invest much effort here."
"But after the tragedy in Xinhai..."
"Elder Sun intends to select some local talents and establish a branch of the Mo Pavilion here. Initially, masters will oversee it and provide resources until the newcomers are trained. Then, the masters will withdraw."
"And in the future, it will be up to our group to train the next generation of protectors."
"Also, it means becoming a part of the Mo Pavilion."
"It's a position of high status."
"So this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It all depends on this assessment to stand out."
"I know the top talents from the other two schools, and I have a pretty good idea of who will be selected."
"It's impossible for everyone to come out on top."
Zhao Zicheng paused for a moment, finally revealing his true intentions while earnestly looking into Yu Sheng's eyes: "It's unrealistic to expect everyone to stand out."
"So, my idea is to nominate one person, with the remaining three providing support."
"This way, the chances of being selected are much higher."
"If I really succeed in securing a spot and join the Mo Pavilion, I just need one word to bring the three of you in."
"After all, the future of Mobei City is in the hands of us, the youth."
"Moreover, my father is the Director of the Security Bureau of Mobei City."
Zhao Zicheng dropped another bombshell.
With the backing of the Security Bureau, combined with everything else he had said being logical and convincing, it naturally made him more credible.
Indeed, as Zhao Zicheng said, if the intelligence was accurate, this plan was the most likely to be a win-win.
Seeing that Yu Sheng remained silent.
"Yu Sheng, what are you hesitating about?"
"We, the youth, should forge ahead courageously!"
"The path of cultivation is a competition for the forefront. If you are timid, you might as well give up the awakening and remain an ordinary person!"

"In the future, we are not limited to Mobei City, we could even join the headquarters of the Mo Pavilion."
"Humanity first!"
Zhao Zicheng's words were passionate, even causing the breathing of the two sitting next to him to grow heavier, as if the vision Zhao Zicheng painted was coming to life in their minds.
"Follow my lead, there's a future!"
As Zhao Zicheng finished speaking, he stared intently at Yu Sheng.
Yu Sheng suddenly looked up, his gaze deep: "It seems you are the one with a future."
In an instant, the fiery atmosphere froze.
The scene was even somewhat awkward.
With his mind full of fervent rhetoric, Zhao Zicheng didn't even know what to say next.
It was then that Yu Sheng suddenly remembered something.
"Your dad is the Director of the Security Bureau?"
Zhao Zicheng's eyes lit up: "Exactly, guaranteed genuine!"
Yu Sheng nodded, "My father is currently in prison..."
It seemed like a lightbulb went off in Zhao Zicheng's head, "I understand. If it's not a serious crime, I'll talk to my dad tonight to see if we can get him released early."
But Yu Sheng shook his head, "What I meant was... can he be kept in a few more days?"
"What?"
Zhao Zicheng froze in place, finally managing to squeeze out a somewhat awkward smile.
He returned to his seat dejectedly, feeling a bit down.
Something wasn't right...
Usually, when he watched his father give speeches, the rhetoric was similar—fiery and passionate, and the members of the Security Bureau would be red-faced, clapping excitedly.
For a moment, he felt quite disheartened.
It wasn't to the extent that he would harbor a deep grudge against Yu Sheng, swearing eternal enmity.
After all, they were just students who hadn't even left school yet. If such a small matter turned them into mortal enemies, then humanity would probably have been extinct for decades by now.
Meanwhile, Li Kai discreetly nudged Zhao Zicheng with his elbow and made a face in Yu Sheng's direction.
But Zhao Zicheng remained sullen and did not respond.
Perhaps at this age, the future he envisioned was truly what he believed in his heart—untainted and overly simplistic, just overly idealistic.
Yang Ruoxin glanced curiously at Yu Sheng, then quickly averted her gaze.
It wasn't that she had developed any romantic feelings, but rather she was simply unaware of when such a character had appeared at the school.
…
The driver finally finished his lunch.
Returning to the vehicle, he started it up.
Zhao Zicheng quickly readjusted his mood, and the three of them were somewhat excited and nervous, whispering quietly among themselves in the car.
Yu Sheng leaned against the window, his eyes closed, resting.
It's worth mentioning...
Just now, Zhao Zicheng did not emit that gray energy from his body.
Soon, Zhao Zicheng snapped out of it, stood up on the school bus, walked to the window, and looked around, slightly furrowing his brow.
"Are we... leaving the city?"
"Could it be that the assessment location isn't in the city?"
"But there has just been an incident in Xinhai City, it should be unsafe outside the city at this time."
He muttered to himself.
At this moment, the driver spoke with a smile, "It's just outside the city, at an old factory. It's spacious and inconvenient inside the city."
"Don't worry, with people from Mo Pavilion around, it's safe."
